Martha Graham EnsembleVirginie Mécène, Ensemble Director • Bethany Roberge, Ensemble Manager
The Martha Graham Ensemble was founded by Yuriko in 1983 at the request of Martha Graham. Its mission is to bring fresh energy, passion and forward vision to the brilliant tradition of Martha Graham. As the New York Times noted, "...these fresh young performers bring to this distinctive style a welcome boldness and clarity." Composed of up to 12 dancers, the Ensemble is the performing arm of the Martha Graham School in New York City. The dancers have been selected from among the hundreds of students from across the world who study at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance. Members are chosen by audition and are fully funded by scholarships. The dance troupe performs Martha Graham's repertory and the works of choreographers within the Graham tradition and is highly committed to its arts outreach programs which are conducted all year long throughout the public school system in all five boroughs of New York. Please contact the Martha Graham School of Dance for information about booking.
